Define server by game port instead of name

Postby horndog » Tue Apr 28, 2009 9:33 am

By adjusting the server name utstatsdb determines that there is a new server. and splits the stats.
Current I have one server but according to UTstatsDB there are three. Would it be possible to define a server by the game port?

Thanks,
Horndog

There is an option in the main menu called "Merge Servers".

I know, and I use it but the other servers still appear as different server. I would like for them to go away. After all it's really the same server.

The only other option is to stop renaming the server. What's the purpose of renaming it?

I'm not renaming my server but why shouldn't I have that option? Just change a space or add or change color then it's as good as renamed. On the other hand If I change the game type or add or remove mutators but keep the original name then you have a different server but yet it's reported as the same. Either way I think it should be an option in the setup. Once the log files are created it's to late to do anything unless you edit every log. I'm not willing to do that. You ask why tweak the name? It's to be noticed in the game browser above the rest.

The server name and port combination is the only identifier UTStatsDB has for recognizing different servers.

I won't push any more but UTstatsDB also has the admin to identify the server.
As far as I'm aware there can only be one server occupying one specific game port
from one IP.
Thank anyway

But it's not IP based because IP addresses can change.

So what your saying is, there can be game hosts that use the same port for all there game but different IP's?
Then how do they know what server to query in the setup to display? They use IP's or Domain names or in my case localhost.

My point is, the means to differentiate server is already in use. The last thought is, is it worth your effort recode to use it? Alternatively maybe a way to merge server names. Maybe a stand alone program to batch alter each logs server name.

There are some people host servers on dynamic IP addresses.
I'm afraid that I've no plans to make changes to the current server name based method, though if you want to do this for your servers you would look into modifying logmatchevents.php in the tag_si function.
